This year’s NW Natural Street of Dreams homeowners will be well prepared to save energy on heating and cooling bills while using the latest WiFi technology and their smart phones. Check out the Carrier Infinity® System Control at the Farm to Table Renaissance Home and the Rheem Eco Net® Comfort Control system in the Bespoke Red Hills home.
Using a WiFi enabled thermostat and an app, temperatures, humidity, ventilation can be easily managed from anywhere using a smartphone, tablet or computer with the natural gas high efficiency HVAC system.
As an example of how the system works with the app, you decide to meet friends for dinner after work, and you won’t be home until 9 p m. You can use the WiFi smart technology from your smartphone to change the home temperature from 72 degrees to 65 degrees from 4:30 to 8:30. That’s four hours of energy savings. By the time you arrive home by 9 p m., it’s a comfortable 72 degrees in the home.
If you are in and out of your home and don’t follow a set schedule, geo fencing may be a good tool for you to save on energy bills and provide comfort. Some smart thermostats include geo fencing, creating an invisible border around your home. When you and your phone leave your neighborhood, the HVAC system adjusts to an “away” setting, saving you money in not heating or cooling an empty home. Re-enter your neighborhood, and it adjusts to a home setting so that it’s comfortable by the time you arrive home.
