We hope you are well and safe during this unprecedented time. After much deliberation and analysis, the Home Builders Association has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 NW Natural Street of Dreams for the first time in 45 years. Even though the event takes place in August, preparations for the show are happening now. The major component of the show – building inspiring homes – is significantly impacted by the social distancing guidelines that were recently extended to at least April 30. Street of Dreams homes are built on a more compressed time schedule which can only be achieved when multiple trades work in the houses at the same time. While some events and shows can be rescheduled, the uncertainties around the length of the social distancing guidelines and the need to have safety be our number one priority create a situation where the production of a show as complex as the Street of Dreams is not feasible.
At the Home Builders Association, our focus is on helping our industry provide needed housing and housing-related services and giving you – the consumer – ways to connect to those resources. We are working with local jurisdictions, as well as state and federal agencies to make sure critical housing needs are met while keeping homeowners, contractors and suppliers healthy.
We are working on plans for a potential Fall New Home Tour that will provide different but fun and engaging opportunities for consumers to still be inspired in new ways. We also are wrapping up details on a site for the 2021 NW Natural Street of Dreams, and we look forward an incredibly inspiring show next year! We will have details on both of these shows in the summer.
